Having looked at photographs of buildings, street furniture
and facilities in Charnwood, the children were bubbling over with
their own ideas for things they would like to see near them. It
was amazing to see their really creative drawings take shape on
a map of the area. Wed been investigating local leisure pursuits
and this was a useful extension. Making a model map of an area and
discussing where the roads, services and houses should be sited
was extremely useful mapwork and language work, as well as giving
good insights into settlements.
I must say thanks very much for a great two days. The children
thoroughly enjoyed it. When are you coming back?
My Year 3 class (7-8 year olds) had a very enjoyable two days
working with your team. The several maps produced showed a good
progression of ideas. We continued the project for several days
after your team had left. We produced a delightful fantasy map.
Id been looking forward to the team from Charnwood Arts
visiting my Year 4 class. People who would stimulate the pupils
and give them a fresh look and a different slant on their area.
I wasnt disappointed. The team were bright and keen to inform
but also careful to listen to the children.
We certainly had a valuable two days and we are all eagerly
awaiting the chance to visit the website.
Even the most difficult child to motivate was keen and interested.
I didnt hear the word boring once. It was very
hands on with probing questions and time for the children to think
and discuss between each other and the team.
