The Museum group children created two body outline surveys. Both
agreed that activities, workshops and choice should be in the top
six along with safety considerations and parental support. They
differed on culture, money and the importance of the building that
activities take place in but agreed that space, bullying, crime
and transport were lesser considerations. Who the adult in charge
is was not seen as a main consideration. This was a small group with
less than ten children. The children were quite articulate in expressing
their views and had some specific ideas about growing up. e.g. When
I grow up Id like to be a judge.
They expressed a very strong desire to live near friends, which
shows a strong emphasis on friendship groups. The activities they
enjoy are active sports such as football and swimming. They also
like going to the cinema and playing on the computer. The focus
on their space tended to be within their own houses, particularly
bedrooms. In their ideal villages, most had leisure facilities,
lots of green spaces and food and entertainment facilities. This
group also emphasised the need for a cemetery - this cropped up
in a number of groups as a direct reference of the children to losing
relatives or expressing the desire to understand more about death.
A number of children created hotels where they would
live but also put up their friends - the idea of a child controlled
environment was quite popular.
Some children expressed their pleasure when adults took an interest
in them and helped them.
